East Antarctica: The coldest, most desolate location on Earth. Two-and-a-half miles below the ice cap is Vostok, a six thousand square mile liquid lake, over a thousand feet deep, left untouched for more than fifteen million years. Now, marine biologist Zachary Wallace and two other scientists aboard a submersible tethered to a laser will journey 13,000 feet beneath the ice into this unexplored realm to discover Mesozoic life forms long believed extinct--and an object of immense power responsible for the evolution of modern man.

In this sequel to The Loch and prequel to MEG: Nightstalkers, New York Times bestselling author Steve Alten offers readers a crossover novel that combines characters from two of his most popular series.

Very Disappointed
By Nilesh Nimkar
The Loch easily features as one of my top ten favourites.Imagine my excitement when I heard the sequel to The Loch was coming out. This book went from good to bad to horrible very fast. This book is NOT a creature feature like The Loch although it does appear to start off like that. Imagine your favourite movie, say Jurassic Park which featured a rampaging creature. Now imagine the sequel is coming out after a long time and you go to watch it. Instead of what you expected you see one creature for the first five minutes then you have to listen to the lead character lecture on his brand of religion and spirituality, about aliens who have advanced technology which can save us but we are not worthy, about physics that suddenly turns metaphysical. And then suddenly the movie turns about UFOs and time travel and saving the earth from military people who are all mean and the creature is still missing till the end credits roll. You get the idea of how this book is.
The author has taken a very good property and ruined a second time, first being the Domain series with the book Phobos. In this book too he rehashes a lot of elements of Phobos including the exploding caldera, wise old aliens, "creator" and his light etc. Multiple time I found myself checking if I had received a book that was misprinted and that was infact two or more books in one.
Being a long time fan of Steve Alten and having loved some of his previous work like The Loch, Meg, or even the recent one like The Omega Project, I was hugely disappointed by this book

Started out great but unfortunately went down hill.
By Patrick S. Mockler
Personally I have enjoyed many of Steve Alten's books. The Meg siries being my favorite. I greatly enjoyed The Loch, and Giloth as well. This one I was excited to get and was looking forward to having people run and fight and out think some giant monsters in a subterranean lake in Antarctica. While there are some this books quickly goes away from that to end up sounding more and more like his Dominoun siries. While I enjoy a good space sci-fi as well this book tends to ere so much on physics, dimensional theories and reincarnation. As someone who is pathetic in math in any sort I had trouble wrapping my head around most the things talked about. Unlike many of his other book I was able to put this one down. it was not the page turner like so many of his other books.

i can't Not finsh a book
By laceyJ
I barely made it through this book. I love Steve Alten. I love the Meg series. I enjoyed the Loch. This book had about 50 great pages and then it became a book where I felt like I was trapped in the brain of a schizophrenic scientologist.
