Found an answer for every question I had about Lymphoedema

The book is an invaluable resource if one wants to know more about lymphoedema (localized fluid retention and tissue swelling), its possible causes, types, risk factors for the development and ways to minimize the risk of lymphoedema. There are plenty of useful information on the effect of lymphoedema on the skin and dealing with skin problems. A lot of attention is given to treatments for lymphoedema as a combination of manual compression lymphatic massage, compression garments (types of garments) and bandaging. Also, I found plenty of information about exercises, lymph drainage massage and additional treatments used in the management of lymphoedema.
Additionally, I have to admit that there are plenty of real life case scenarios, great references and websites for further reading. The book is well written and organized. Thank you

About the Author
David Morin is a Lecturer and the Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Physics Department at Harvard University. He received his A.B. in mathematics from Brown University and his Ph.D. in theoretical particle physics from Harvard University. He is the author of five books, including Introduction to Classical Mechanics (Cambridge University Press, 2008), Electricity and Magnetism (Cambridge University Press, co-author, 2013), and Special Relativity: For the Enthusiastic Beginner (2017). When not writing textbooks, thinking of physics limericks, or conjuring up new problems whose answers involve e or the golden ratio, he can be found running along the Charles River or hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This book is awesome

This text is AMAZING!

This Harvard prof. was able to make probability fun for students, yet presented the material in a manner rigorous enough for any college/high school course.

I am familiar with over a dozen probability textbooks and they all present the material in the same way with the same tired arguments. This author must have thought long and hard about the best ways to present every idea. I am posting two figures that show just how much he's thought about teaching the subject: (1) I smiled when I saw this figure. After seeing this, I don't think students will mix-up permutations quite as much. (2) This figure shows how the Binomial, Gaussian, and Poisson distributions are related to one another via limits. This is difficult to teach, but this simple figures sums it up beautifully!
Looks like he's also spent quite a bit of time developing good exercises and problems in all chapters. More than enough for a single course.

The text is totally approachable, unpretentious, and it’s a fun read.
I’m thrilled I chose this text. I strongly recommend it to students and instructors alike.

For those interested in Probability this book guarantees that what you learn will always be useful and relevant.

If you have ever struggled with Combinatorics in probability books, the first chapter of this book will be a godsend.
The first chapter is 56 pages long. However, when it comes to teaching and learning probability, this is the most fruitful 56 pages that I have ever seen. If you have struggled with Combinatorics, like I have, reading Chapter 1 of this book should clear much of the fog. The author doesn't assume that the reader has relevant experience in Combinatorics, which he defines as "The study of how to count things."

The author avoids the irritating phrase "it can be shown that." Rather he shows you how to "count things" as he develops the relationships used to "count things." You may have encountered the relationships he develops in the past. However, the author's explanations provides more details which makes the concepts more plausible. For example, he uses Venn Diagrams when developing probabilities for dependent events and the Probability Square when developing probabilities for independent events. To some this may seem trivial and/or obvious. However, this may not be the case for those who are studying these concepts for the first time.

This book is written in a manner that covers a broad audience interested in learning probability. You should have a very good background in at least algebra. This book is designed for more than just scratiching the surface of Probability. This may be the motivation behind the subtitle..."For the Enthusiastic Beginner."

The seven Chapters cover:

Chapter 1....Combinatorics
Chapter 2....Probability
Chapter 3....Expectation values
Chapter 4....Distributions
Chapter 5....Gaussian approximations
Chapter 6....Correlation and regression
Chapter 7....Appendices

The author solves many example problems in each chapter as aids to learning. There are also end of chapter problems with detailed solutions. Each chapter ends with a summary, which precedes the end of chapter exercises. It is noteworthy that Chapter 3 involves topics that are encountered in statistics. This is an additional plus that emphasizes the relationships between probability and statistics. This is a five star book.

An Excellent introduction to Probability for a Beginner

I thought I had a good understanding of statistics, but soon realized I wasn't very good at reading formulas and didn't know much besides descriptive statistics. This book provides a gentle introduction to probability and ramps up to complex ideas quickly. Within the first hundred pages I realized I was comfortable reading formulas that would have intimidated me days earlier.

Kudos to the author for recognizing the need for a book about probability for students who forgot most of their math skills.

The cover art is also wonderful.

intention, invention: the creative process

For anyone fortunate enough to have seen the Donmar Warehouse production of RED with Alfred Molina and Eddie Redmayne it will come as no surprise that John Logan's script yields fresh fruit with each new reading. As literate and passionate exploration of the creative process, the play positively requires--demands--that most important aspect of art--the audience's participation, the audience's thinking. The immediate topical focus of the play, of course, is Mark Rothko, but its ultimate concerns lie far beyond the boundaries of one man's canvas. RED is a masterpiece.

All the quotations. All the questions.

I'm a sucker for think-pieces like this. I'm old fashioned enough that I actually want to be challenged by art. "Challenged"? Hell, I believe its essential to anyones proof of existence that they be willing to run directly at an oncoming train for the experience of being completely changed by the impact. And, yes, I'm the one with the father who would stand in the museums in the 1950's and say about abstract expressionism, "My kid coulda done that." Or, about Rothko, "If I painted a wall that unevenly, I'd be fired." Thankfully, I eventually moved to Houston and discovered the Rothko Chapel where I spent many quiet, dimly lit hours alone and in the company of friends with those paintings (thanks to Dominique deMenille). I returned to all of this (from New Hampshire) with the PBS broadcast of Simon Schama's Power of Art. The hour on Rothko's Seagram's Four Seasons mural was the climactic, eight episode in the series. All of the quotations are there. All of the questions are there. And the question of money and art gets a full-body slam. (Rothko famously told Philip Johnson, the architect, 'No one who pays that kind of money for that kind of food is going to see any paintings of mine,' and send the commissioning fee, the equivalent of $2 million, back.) Since I saw the Schama first and have watched it many times, I venture that the play dramatizes the contents of the Schama program (same source? collaboration between the authors? zeitgeist?) introducing the catalyst of an artists' assistant. No matter. If you're attracted to think pieces, especially think pieces devoted to contemporary (for me, anyway) art and contemporary issues in art, both the Schama and the Logan were created for you. Here's a two-engined train you should run at with all your might.

A brilliant play

I had read the play before seeing Alfred Molina's stunning performance on Broadway and the writing simply sang. Logan has created a true masterpiece with delicious roles for actors. A wonderful play and an engaging read! While Colette Freedman's Sister Cities used to be my favorite play, I believe it has been surpassed by this remarkably crafted aria.

Excellent book by the leader in the field.

Bocci cuts through ozones hype and gives clear and accurate scientifically proven information on what ozone can and can't do for somebody and how it should be administered(direct IV not being one of them). The price tag I think is a bit high for an amateur researcher such as myself but worth every penny. For any medical persons reading this review who is considering buying this book please note contary to FDA statements there are hundreds of studies proving efficacy of ozone therapy for all types of ailments. They are all public domain.

Ozone therapy corrects the redox system(that's the antioxidant system for layfolks)so for anybody with a chronic viral infection who has a failing redox system that is one major reason alone(there are many others) to use ozone therapy. I will repeat that - for that single fact it is reason enough to use it.

Ozone being a good negatively charged free radical will actually nutralise harmful reactive oxygen species(ROS). This is one of the biggest misunderstandings by untrained medical personnel who beleive ozone is a harmful free radical and one of the messages Bocci gets across so strongly.

Autohemotherapy vs, Direct IV

Kudo's to Dr Bocci for his publication promoting IV ozone therapy. We have seen the results of over 45,000 Autohemotherapies and since 1994 over 95,000 Direct Iv ozone applications. There is no doubt that Dr. Bocci is completely wrong in his evaluation of Direct Iv. when done correctly it is easily safer, faster, less costly, and far more effective. In fact, Dr bocci is correct when he says that Autohemo will not cure most problems, while Direct IV absolutely will. Anyone with our experience in both types will agree.

Reading this volume required a lot of dedication a) the lettering was very small b) one gets lost in too many details, which in turn hinder understanding of the fundamental concept of providing intra-cell communication. c) Also, I have not found evidence to the metabolic effect of breathing in Ozone at very low concentrations.

Awesome Drawings

I chose this Usborne reading series for my children solely based on the cover. The rest of the story is drawn almost as well. The story is interesting although I think the king's tour guide gave away too much government intel to a complete stranger. It is a book good overall.

Disappointing lack of insights

The author's credentials as the former editor-in-chief of The Economist was a key attraction for me: I expected engaging accounts that would provide real insight on what are working and not working in Italy. Unfortunately, I found the book disappointingly lacking in both insight and engagement. In most cases, the "before" and "after" of various reforms are recounted without any description of how they were accomplished. In discussing of the reforms at Turin's Egyptian museum, for example, we are told that after some "tussels" with employees, the new director magically accomplished changes in their work habits, without a single word on how that was done. Lots of interesting statistics are cited without any further elaboration. As someone who is a relative newcomer to Italy's modern political and economic woes, I feel that I learned nothing new from reading this book, which could have been so much more interesting and informative.

some good content, but badly written and a chore to read

I too was attracted by the author's role at The Economist, and by an interview with him on NPR. However, the book is disappointing. It was first written in Italian -- by the way, being able to write in Italian does not make one an expert on Italy -- and then translated into English. The translation is terrible -- for example, "The modern character of Italy's new democratic crisis is its mediatic nature ...". What the heck does "mediatic" mean? It's not in my dictionary. Apparently it means "media-centric" or something similar. But the sentence as a whole is poorly constructed; what does "modern character" refer to? Does the crisis have a character that is not modern? This may sound pedantic, but the reader is often required to do a lot of work to understand what the author is saying (and sometimes it's not really clear what that is). Many sentences are very long -- this is a feature of articles in Italian newspapers, but has no place in a book in English. By "long" I mean ten lines or more, phrase piled upon phrase, requiring much more effort to untangle than the content warrants. The author must be able to write clear, straightforward English -- he worked at a leading magazine for more than 25 years. It is a shame that he did not rewrite his own book in that straightforward way.

Good Emmott, Bad Emmott

In "Good Italy, Bad Italy" former Economist editor-in-chief Bill Emmott travels around Italy speaking with ambitious, creative, and hopeful Italians to try and explain why Italy's economy has fallen so far behind its Western European rivals'. Emmott's primary contention is that Italy's potential for growth is stymied by political failure that saps the country of its otherwise prodigious energy and creativity. He cites and discusses a number of culprits: Silvio Berlusconi foremost among them, but also a bloated public sector, a glacially slow justice system, rigid labor laws, mafias, a non-competitive service sector, lackluster universities, and very low R&D spending. The result is a country with a huge public debt, a rapidly declining population, and a slow growing economy.

Emmott describes Italy's current condition through a mix of background reporting and short profiles of entrepreneurs, political reformers, and admirable businesses. Some anecdotes are particularly illustrative such as the reform of the Egyptian Museum in Turin which Emmott cites as an example of Italy's good side being freed to flourish from lethargic labor unions and government control. The example is undermined a bit though by the fact that the museum's transformational director is not an Italian, but a Greek-American.

While this book does an adequate job of painting a portrait of Italy's economic struggles over the last two decades, Emmott does not seem intimately familiar with the country. He compensates by frequently inserting Italian phrases where they are unnecessary, and by using the adjective "Dantean" in many metaphors. Despite this stylistic shortcomings, Emmott succeeds in objectively describing Italy's difficulties, and it will be interesting to see if his high hopes in Mario Monti are justified.
